May 18 is designated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM) as International Museum Day. It is celebrated all over the world with various events and is dedicated to a specific theme related to museums and their role in modern society.

Apart from the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, the Museums have nowadays been developed into focal points of peoples and cultures. They develop collaborations and create networks for the exchange of ideas and experiences. Preserving respect for historical memory and tradition, they seek new orientations to inspire modern people and serve their needs. In this context, the Museums with their multi-faceted actions try to respond to the challenges of modern society and to achieve the difficult balance between heritage and innovation contributing to the building of a better future.
For the year 2019, the Hellenic Department of ICOM selected the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation as a valued institution.
